The Cape Metropolitan and rural population is presently estimated to be about 4.5 million people. The Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour is the largest timed cycle tour in the world, with +/-35 000 participants competing over a 105km scenic route. There are numerous world-class competitions on the annual Cape Town sporting calendar, including the Two Oceans Marathon. The Soccer World Cup tournament will be hosted by South Africa in 2010.
